The Podlasie Academy of Applied Sciences in Białystok receives grants from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for material assistance to students.

 

Students are entitled to apply for financial aid regardless of their form of study (full-time, part-time) and age.

Scholarships are granted for an academic year.

Scholarships can be granted to students for a period of 9 months in an academic year (October – June), with the exception of financial aid, which is a one-time benefit and is granted twice in an academic year.

Types of scholarships awarded::

  • Rector’s scholarship,
  • social scholarship,
  • scholarship for the disabled,
  • aid grant

A scholarship may be awarded only for one course and at one university – (applies to all types of scholarships).

Students are not entitled to material assistance benefits (applies to all types of scholarships) referred to in Article 173, item 1 of the Law on Higher Education:

  • A student who has completed a single master’s degree programme or a second-cycle programme;
  • A student who has completed a first-cycle study and resumed studies at that level;
  • A student who has completed a first degree programme and is continuing his/her studies with a view to obtaining a master’s degree or an equivalent degree for a period longer than three years;
  • A student who is already receiving benefits of the same kind in another field of study at the same or another higher education institution.

A maximum of 10% of students in a given field of study may receive the Rector’s scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded only at the student’s request.

The income thresholds per family member and their respective social grant rates are set by the Rector in consultation with the university’s student self-government body.

The income threshold for the maintenance grant in the academic year 2024/2025 at Podlaska Academy in Bialystok – Academy of Applied Sciences is 1570.50 PLN (net).

The average income from work on individual farms for 1 ha of calculation area for the year 2023 is PLN 5451.

Students whose monthly income per person in their family does not exceed the amount of PLN 600.00 net (from 01.01.2025 – PLN 823.00 net) are obliged to provide a certificate from a social assistance centre on the income and financial situation of the student and his/her family.

In the academic year 2024/2025, the following income thresholds for a maintenance grant were in force:

Incomplete or incorrectly completed applications will not be considered by the Scholarship Committee.

Rector’s scholarship

May be awarded to a student who has achieved a high average mark for the year of study (not less than 4.5). A student may apply for the scholarship not earlier than after completing the first year of studies and passing the following year of studies.

Social grant

It is awarded at the request of a student in a difficult material situation. The amount of income entitling a student to apply for this benefit is determined by the Rector in consultation with the institutional student self-government body, with the proviso that the monthly income per person in the student’s family may not be higher than the sum of the amounts defined in Article 5, section 1 and Article 6, section 2, subsection 3 of the Act of 28 November 2003 on Family Benefits (Dziennik Ustaw No. 228, item 2255, as amended).

Social scholarship in the increased amount

It is granted to full-time students for living in a student dormitory or other accommodation if daily commuting from the place of residence to the university would make studying impossible or significantly difficult. The scholarship is awarded at the student’s request, which is assessed in accordance with the criteria for the award of a maintenance grant.

Scholarship for disabled persons

Is awarded at the student’s request. When applying for this benefit, a student should submit to the university a certificate of disability or another document equal to the certificate (in accordance with the Act of 27 August 1997 on vocational and social rehabilitation and employment of disabled persons – Journal of Laws No. 123, item 776, as amended).

Allowance

May be granted to students who, due to independent causes, find themselves temporarily in a difficult life situation.

Social grant

Please indicate your bank account number in your application.

Please note: Students whose financial situation changes are required to submit an application for a recalculation of income (Appendix 1A – Application for recalculation of income).

Documents required to be submitted by students applying for the first time in the academic year 2024/2025:

  2. A certificate from the Tax Office – for the year 2023 – concerning each adult member of the family on income subject to personal income tax (a joint certificate for a married couple must show separate amounts for each spouse, not just the sum of the amounts).
  3. A certificate from the Tax Office on income from 2023. – persons up to the age of 26 who were not subject to taxation (Young persons’ allowance up to the age of 26)
  4. PITs for 2023 from payers (e.g. PIT-11 from the company in which the person was employed, PIT 40A/11A from the Social Insurance Institution – in the case of old-age pension, disability pension, sickness benefit, PIT from the County Labour Office – in the case of collecting unemployment benefit, PIT-B – persons running a business in 2023.
  5. A certificate (from ZUS, KRUS, the workplace) of all family members who have earned income with the full amount of 9% health insurance premiums for 2023 (not needed when gross income is ‘zero’, is taxed with lump-sum income tax, is ‘lost’ or non-taxable income – e.g. from a farm, when on PIT – 11/11A/40A the amount of health premiums is equal to 0 PLN).
  6. A certificate documenting the amount of other income (e.g. a certificate of net monthly income in the case of reporting earned income).

  8. A certificate of attendance at school or university of the student’s siblings or children who are under 26 years of age, and if the 26th year falls in the final year of study until their graduation – the certificate should include the child’s date of birth, otherwise another document confirming age is necessary)
  9. Copy of marriage certificate (original to be submitted for inspection).

  10. A certificate from a social assistance centre on the income and financial situation of the student and his/her family.
ATTENTION!

Students whose monthly income per person in their family does not exceed the amount of PLN 600.00 net (from 01.01.2025 – PLN 823.00 net) are required to submit a certificate from a social assistance centre on the income and financial situation of the student and his/her family.

Lack of such a certificate will result in a refusal to grant a maintenance grant.

If the aforementioned certificate is not enclosed with the application, the reasons for not enclosing the certificate should be given and the family’s sources of income should be indicated and documented – specimen declaration (attachment No. 6)-wzór oświadczenia (załącznik nr 6) ( PDF,124KB ). The fact of submitting an explanatory statement DOES NOT DEFINITELY INDICATE THAT THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE AWARDED, it will depend on the explanations submitted and the committee’s assessment of the situation.

 

In the case of income subject to personal income tax on a general basis from business activities

The documents listed in points. 1 – 11

 

If you receive income subject to flat-rate income tax (registered flat rate or tax card):

Documents listed in points. 1 – 11 and a certificate from the Tax Office stating

  • form of tax paid
  • amount of income
  • tax rate
  • amount of tax paid in the calendar year preceding the benefit period.

In the case of income from an agricultural holding:

The documents listed in points. 1 – 11 and:

  • A certificate from the municipality office on the size of the agricultural holding in conversion ha in the year 2023. If the agricultural holding is located on the territory of more than one municipality or belongs to several persons in the family remaining in a joint household, a set of certificates documenting this must be submitted.
  • The lease contract, in the case where a part or all of an agricultural holding owned by the family is leased out on the basis of a contract concluded pursuant to the provisions of the social insurance of farmers, or where an agricultural holding is leased out in connection with the receipt of an annuity referred to in the provisions on support for rural development from the Guarantee Section of the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund,
  • Contract concluded in the form of a notarial deed, in the case of contribution of an agricultural holding for use by an agricultural production cooperative,
  • A certificate from the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS) on sickness benefits paid in 2023.

In the case of receipt of alimony:

The documents listed in points. 1 – 11 and:

  • A copy of the copy of the court judgment awarding alimony to the persons in the family or a copy of the copy of the minutes of the meeting containing the content of the court settlement,
  • bank transfers or money orders documenting the actual amount of alimonies received, in the case of obtaining alimonies lower than those adjudged in the judgment or court settlement, as well as a bailiff’s certificate of total or partial ineffectiveness of alimony enforcement and the amount of enforced alimonies,
  • non-receipt of alimonies must be documented by means of a bailiff’s declaration of ineffectiveness of enforcement.
  • If an alimony fund benefit is granted, a certificate of its amount must be provided.
  • In the case of receipt of voluntary alimony, declarations by the recipient and the person paying voluntary alimony must be provided, together with money orders or money transfers documenting the amount of voluntary alimony.

In the case of loss of income

  1. A document stating the date of loss of income and the amount of income lost. This may include, for example, annual 2023 statements received from the employer (PIT-11, PIT-8B, PIT-40), a certificate of employment, a decision to liquidate a business, a certificate from the employer about being on parental leave.

The provisions on the loss and gain of income do not apply to income from employment or other gainful employment and income from deregistration or commencement of non-agricultural economic activity, if a family member has lost income from these titles and within 3 months, counting from the date of loss of income, has gained income from the same employer or principal or commissioner of works or has restarted non-agricultural economic activity.

In the case of obtaining income

  1. When the income was earned in the base year (income from 2023 was earned for less than 12 months) and is still earned – a document stating the net amount of income earned by the family member and the number of months in which the income was earned
  2. When the income was received after the base year and is still receive – a document stating the net income earned by the family member from the month following the month in which the income was earned.

Other documents – as appropriate:

  1. A copy of the disability certificate of the student’s siblings or children,
  2. A copy of a final judgment of a family court stating adoption or a certificate from a family court or an adoption and guardianship centre on the ongoing court proceedings for adoption of a child,
  3. A copy of the family court decision appointing the child’s legal guardian,
  4. A copy of the complete copy of the child’s birth certificate if the father is unknown,
  5. A copy of a legally valid family court judgement pronouncing a divorce or separation or a death certificate of the child’s spouse or parent – in the case of a single parent,
  6. A copy of a copy of a final judgment dismissing an action for the establishment of alimony,
  7. A copy of a court decision obliging one of the parents to bear the entire child maintenance costs,
  8. Copy of a parent’s death certificate if one parent is raising the child, or copy of a parent’s death certificate if both parents are deceased,
  9. A copy of the student’s marriage certificate,
  10. Copy of the birth certificate of the student’s child/children,
  11. A document confirming a change in the number of members of the student’s family (in case of a change of circumstances affecting the right to financial aid granted), i.e. birth of a child, divorce, death of a family member.

In the case of an application for a maintenance grant in an increased amount due to living in the student’s house or in a facility other than the student’s house.

This scholarship may be applied for by full-time students in a difficult financial situation who have their place of residence outside Bialystok (at least 50 km), for whom daily commuting to the university makes studying difficult or impossible. A person applying for this scholarship must attach to the application :

ATTENTION!

Certificates from the Tax Office and ZUS/KRUS – originals must be submitted.

In order to authenticate copies of the documents referred to above, the originals of these documents must be presented.

If you send your application by post, write on the copy of the above-mentioned document: ‘I am in possession of the original of this document, I certify that the copy is a true copy of the original, I undertake to show the original to the committee if I would be asked to do so”– date, signature.

Allowance

It may be granted to students who, due to independent causes, find themselves temporarily in a difficult life situation.

A difficult life situation justifying the granting of a one-time financial support in the form of an allowance should be understood as all the conditions (e.g. material, family, social, health) in which the student’s family found itself, causing temporary problems in meeting the family’s material needs. The reasons for the student’s difficult life situation may include, in particular, illness, disability or death of a family member, damage caused by another fortuitous event (e.g. fire, natural disaster), loss of a regular source of income and others.

The allowance is a one-off benefit. The granting of the allowance on the basis of given (specific) facts excludes the possibility of re-granting the allowance on the basis of the same facts.

Documents to be submitted:

  1. Application for the granting of financial aid
  2. Documents confirming difficult financial situation of the student
  3. Student’s statement about not receiving benefits in another course of studies x 2 pcs. (Attachment No. 4)

Stypendium dla osób niepełnosprawnych

Scholarship for disabled persons

It is granted at the student’s request. When applying for this benefit, a student should submit to the university a certificate on the degree of disability or another document equal to the certificate (in accordance with the Act of 27 August 1997 on vocational and social rehabilitation and employment of disabled persons – Journal of Laws No. 123, item 776, as amended).

Documents to be submitted:

  1. Application for a scholarship for persons with disabilities
  2. Copies of documents confirming the degree of disability (disability certificate)
  3. Student’s declaration that he/she is not receiving benefits in another field of study x 2 pcs.

Rector’s scholarship

May be awarded to a student who has achieved a high grade point average for the year of study (minimum 4.50). A student may apply for the scholarship not earlier than after completing the first year of study and passing the following year of study.

Documents to be submitted:

  1. Application for the rector’s scholarship(appendix no. 3)
  2. Student’s statement about not receiving the benefit in another field of study x 2 pcs.
